Bernat de Quintaval distributes his goods among the poor

Scene that is part of a series of twenty paintings dedicated to Saint Francis of Assís. In the center of the composition, Saint Francis is represented at the moment when he tells Fra Bernat de Quintaval what the first step to conversion is: the renunciation of his possessions and the distribution of the profits from their sale to the poor. Fact that happens to the right. In the second term to the left is another scene from the saint’s life, where he is seen asking for the construction of the hermitage of Santa Maria de la Porciúncula. This is one of the works in the series where you can best grasp the concept of pictorial narrative that characterizes the conventual series. Antoni Viladomat is the most important painter of the first half of the 18th century in Catalonia. Its aesthetic proposal curdles in a society that recovers social, economic and cultural dynamism after the destruction of the War of Succession.
