Manresa will organize the first Jornades d’Art Barroc de Catalunya on October 3rd and 4th.

The Jornades d’Art Barroc de Catalunya, organized by the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya and the Department of Art History and Museology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, will bring together leading experts from the main universities of Catalonia and Northern Catalonia. These experts will reflect on the artistic manifestations of the Baroque era in Catalonia on October 3rd and 4th.

Manresa will host the first Jornades d’Art Barroc de Catalunya on October 3rd and 4th, organized by the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya in collaboration with the Department of Art History and Musicology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Over the course of two days, the lectures will feature leading researchers from the main Catalan universities and Northern Catalonia: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat de Girona, Universitat de Barcelona, and Universitat de Perpinyà.
The scientific coordination of the lectures is led by Francesc Miralpeix i Vilamala, PhD in Art History and professor in the Department of Art History and Musicology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
The event also involves the participation of various local associations such as the Centre d’Estudis del Bages and the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de la Catalunya Central.

The lectures will begin at the Auditori de la Plana de l’Om with the more academic presentations and will continue in the afternoon at the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya, where students and researchers will present their work. The first day will conclude with a round table titled “El gran repte: del Museu al territori” (“The Big Challenge: From the Museum to the Territory”), featuring representatives from museums and associations linked to the country’s cultural heritage.

On Saturday morning, the lectures will continue with visits to key Baroque heritage sites in Manresa through two guided tours. One will focus on the Sanctuary of La Cova, and the other on the Basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu. The first tour will be led by professors Bonaventura Bassegoda i Hugas and Joan Bosch i Ballbona. The second, at La Seu, will be conducted by Illán Holgado i García and Anna Nadal i Tenllado, who are soon to publish a volume on the Baroque art of the Basilica of La Seu.

Registration for the lectures, which is free of charge, can be completed through the museum’s website until September 15. Interested participants may choose between two modalities: in-person or online via live streaming. Attendees may request a certificate of attendance.

Establishing a lecture series with a biannual frequency

Declared a Museum of National Interest in 2024, the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya has, among its main objectives, the goal of connecting with the research sector in order to become a platform for knowledge dissemination. At the same time, it offers its collections to leading research centers to contribute to the study and understanding of Baroque art in Catalonia.
With this aim, the museum is launching this lecture series, which will be held biennially, making Manresa a hub for sharing research and promoting the value of the artistic expressions of this period within the Catalan territory. Each edition will focus on a specific theme, in order to highlight the richness and complexity of the Baroque era.
This first edition prioritizes lectures that present the current state of research on this artistic movement in Catalonia, across the main artistic disciplines, under the theme “El barroc al segle XXI” (The Baroque in the 21st Century).
