The halo over the head and the clothing of a Roman commander are those of an unidentified holy warrior martyr. The sculptor’s technique is evident in the convincing resolution of the anatomy, and the vigor and strength of the musculature, which convey believable determination and energy. The image is attributed to Andreu Sala, one of the best Catalan sculptors of the second half of the 17th century.
