Resurrection

Jesus rises above the open sarcophagus, surrounded by a mantle and in a cloud. With his left hand he holds a cross with a pennant. At the bottom are four soldiers who are appalled by the scene and have to protect themselves with their shields and hands from the strong light. The set, which narrates the fifteen mysteries of the Virgin of the Rosary, is one of the most significant works by Joan Grau, the most representative author of the Baroque sculpture school in Manresa. In the Roser Altarpiece of the Church of Sant Pere Martir, the sculptor demonstrates a great mastery of high relief and figures.
