An exhibition that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Ferrocarrils railway line’s arrival to Manresa.

The arrival of the metre-gauge railways to Manresa in 1924 marked the culmination of the great Catalan metre-gauge railways network. The project was born from the joining of three small “carrilets” circulating along the the Llobregat and Anoia mergers, which became the most important metre-gauge line in Catalonia and one of the most modern in Europe. Along its 175 km of tracks, the network was used by the best numbers of passengers and goods recorded up to that time, while the region of Central Catalonia experienced a great industrial and social development.

Ferrocarrils commemorates this anniversary with an exhibition that takes place at the galleries of Museu de Manresa’s cloister and with the publication of a book. The history of Ferrocarrils Catalans is retraced through both initiatives, starting from its origins, at the end of the 19th century, to the present days, through different key stages:

  1. The “carrilets” of Llobregat and Anoia
  2. The completion of the network in 1924
  3. From the apogee of the twenties to the darkness of the thirties
  4. The post-war recovery
  5. Modernization in the 1960s and crisis of the 1970s
  6. The stage of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya
  7. Transformation in the 21st century

The publication “Cent anys dels Ferrocarrils Catalans, La culminació de la gran xarxa”, is available for free pick-up from the exhibition’s inauguration and after it in the reception of the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya. Only a few copies are available.
