The exhibition “Refugees: The other side of the Civil War in Manresa” is part of the Networked Memory proposal that promotes the Network of Local Museums of the Barcelona Provincial Council and which presents 19 exhibitions.
In this context, the Manresa Museum presents a Civil War poster that the Manresa artist Anselm Corrons made for the Llar de l’Infant in 1936. During the Civil War, Manresa hosted 3,000 people fleeing the troops Francoists and provided them with humanitarian assistance. The exhibition highlights not only the situation of refugees in our country during the Civil War but also offers a current view of the conflict based on different artistic pieces that invite reflection.
The opening of the exhibition is part of the event “Refugees yesterday and today” which, in the context of World Refugee Day, invites reflection on the current refugee conflict. During the event, the book “We had to leave” will be presented with Laia de Ahumada, accompanied by witnesses of international refuge. There will also be a line zero of the welfare organizations that currently offer services to refugees in our city, such as the Red Cross, APIP-ACAM, Fundació Tomàs Canet and Fundació del Convent de Santa Clara. Finally, the event will have an artistic closing by Txema Rico.
