A season of four conferences about the music in the baroque Catalonia, by the musicologist Oriol Perez i Treviño
To celebrate Saint Cecilia, patron of the musician, next Thursday 21st October the season of lectures “La música a la Catalunya del Barroc, 1600-1773” will start. The proposal will include four conferences that will value the music in the baroque Catalonia. These lectures will talk about well-known and consolidated artists as Francesc Valls, but with the aim to recover the names of other artists that had remained hidden and forgotten with the years.
The first lecture “El naixement de la música instrumental a la Catalunya del Barroc”, will take place next 21st November at 6pm, in the cloisters’ room of the Museu de Manresa. Between February and May 2025 will take place the other lectures, about different subjects like the opera, the religious music and a general overview of research into the spread of music in Catalonia during the Baroque period.
The four conferences of this season will be held by Oriol Pérez i Treviño, musicologist and essayist. Over the course of his career, he had combined the research with the direction of important projects of the country like the Xarxa de Músiques a Catalunya, The Festival de Torruella de Montgrí, the Centre Robert Gerhard, the Acadèmia 1750 or the Auditori.
With this proposal, the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya continue with the strong commitment to divulge the baroque arts in all its aspects and with that aim starts the first season about music, with the intention of making it an annual event. This commitment to the catalan baroque music starts in the museum’s rooms, where there are different musical pieces created by some of the most important catalan composer.
