The art of the Baroque period in Catalonia has, by the mid-21st century, overcome the heavy burden of two centuries of neglect and criticism. Today, the heritage of this fertile period in our history has moved beyond indifference and prejudice, becoming part of the general discourse on the history of Catalan art and, gradually, an element in the programs of most cultural and museological institutions.
In this context, the Museu del Barroc de Catalunya will organize the event “Jornades d’Art Barroc a Catalunya: el Barroc al segle XXI” (Lectures on Catalan Baroque Art: The Baroque in the 21st Century), with the aim of promoting research and raising awareness of the artistic expressions of this period throughout Catalonia.
The focus of these lectures — which will bring together leading researchers in the field — will be the current state of Baroque art in the mid-21st century. Key topics will include major challenges, the musealization of Baroque heritage, artistic genres, conservation and restoration, dissemination, and other related issues.
The lectures will also include presentations, which will be published along with the proceedings, guided tours of Manresa’s main Baroque sites, and a round table featuring the participation of museum professionals.
The scientific coordination of the lectures will be led by Francesc Miralpeix i Vilamala from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
