THE MUSEU DE MANRESA WILL BE ONE OF THE EPICENTERS OF THE 27th FIRA MEDITERRÀNIA

Four shows and a temporary exhibition will fill the museum with music, dance and theatre

The 27th edition of the Fira Mediterrània de Manresa, which will be held from October 10 to 13, will feature a total of 75 shows, 79% of which (59) will be premieres. This year, the contest wanted to focus on the Maghreb and the concept of dissidence.

The press conference presenting the program was held at the facilities of the Museu Barroc de Catalunya. As explained by the artistic director of the fair, Jordi Fosas, the museum will be “one of the epicentres” of this year’s edition of the contest and the fact that the cloister of the building will host two large-scale dance shows and also there will be performances in other areas of the museum.

The events of this year’s Fira Mediterrània at the museum will begin with the opening of the exhibition “The body of women” on October 5. An exhibition focused on the debate on sexual and reproductive health, not from the perspective of the 21st century, but in relation to material and immaterial culture in Catalonia. This unprecedented exhibition can be visited from October 10 to 12 from 10 am to 4 pm.

As for the traditional dance, you can enjoy two shows in the cloister. Biterna, by It Dansa, Cor Jove Nacional de Catalunya, a show that gives voice to minorities who have suffered and are suffering discrimination, focusing on the persecution of witches. Also from the Dique show, by the Nova Galega de Danza company. Contemporary dance and traditional Galician dance to pay tribute to the 200 women who built the Dic de la Campana de Ferrol 150 years ago.

Continuing with the dance, the Jarana show by Laia Santanach will take place in the museum’s rooms, which investigates the concepts of tradition and ritual from a contemporary dance that focuses on traditions that have disappeared or are in danger of doing so.

Folk music will invade the museum with the show aTorna by Gabri Reboredo, Adrià Grandia and Gutier Álvarez, in which mechanisms, rituals and codes inherited from Catalan and Galician traditions are questioned.

Finally, in the rooms of the cloister you can also enjoy the theater show El so dels Titelles (Obrador d’arrel) by Toni Masegosa and Andrea Cruz. With an interactive visual and sound installation resulting from the study and exploration of the puppet theater of the Mediterranean and its tradition.
